I learned how to make this dish from my mother. It’s a traditional Mienh dish that I now make for my children. I like to make this in large batches for family gatherings and potlucks.

Mienh Stuffed Tofu, 4.3 out of 5 based on 4 ratings

  • 2 packages extra-firm tofu (approx. 2 lbs)
  • 4 cups ground pork
  • 4 stalks green onions, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt

1.  In a medium bowl, mix together ground pork, green onions, garlic, eggs, and salt.

2.  Cut tofu into squares, approximately 3-5 inches wide and 1 inch deep. Cut each square to form two triangles.

3.  Cut an opening in the tofu for the meat mixture, by cutting a slit into the long side of the triangle. Stuff meat mixture into the opening.

4.  In a large, flat bottom pan, coat with 1 teaspoon oil and 2 tablespoons water. Carefully layer the stuffed tofu triangles onto the pan. Cover, and cook the tofu over high heat (until water boils), then reduce heat to medium-low and steam for approximately 25-30 minutes.

5.  Remove cover, and slice meat inside a tofu to check for done-ness. If the meat is pink, re-cover and continue steaming. The meat is cooked when hardened and no longer pink when sliced open.
